Papagayo Gulf Fishing Tour for Roosterfish & Mahi-Mahi

Your fishing day begins with boarding in the Papagayo area, where complimentary pick-up is included within the Gulf. Once onboard, your captain heads toward the most productive fishing spots based on seasonal patterns and daily conditions.

The 4-hour trip typically starts with trolling using live or frozen bait to target roosterfish, mahi-mahi (dorado), and depending on the season, yellowfin tuna or bonito. These species are known for their strength and exciting fights, making every strike memorable.

If trolling slows down, the crew switches to bottom fishing to target snapper and sea bass (cabrilla). Roosterfish, sailfish, and marlin are strictly catch and release to protect the fishery. Other species may be kept for you to enjoy later at your hotel or shared with the crew.

Throughout the trip, you’ll enjoy scenic coastal views and attentive service. If anyone feels seasick, the captain can pause at a nearby beach so guests can recover before returning to the action. The experience blends flexibility, safety, and authentic local expertise for an unforgettable day on the Pacific.
