Meet Santos Hernández — Wixárika guide and Guardian of Sacred Sites — at the meeting point, where a brief explanation introduces the journey before the walk begins. Arriving 15 minutes early is recommended, and the pace stays flexible from the very start: there is no rush, you can settle in at your own pace, and breaks can be taken whenever needed.
The route covers about 2 km round trip through the jungle, on jungle trails with a few hills. Depending on the group, some route changes can be made, and walking sticks are provided. As you walk, Santos shares stories about his culture, the local vegetation, symbolism, and daily life, pointing out the plants and places that matter to his people — questions are always welcome.
The heart of the experience is the visit to four sacred sites. At each one, Santos explains what it means and what it represents. You will receive a ribbon at the site; at the end of the prayer, the ribbon is placed in a designated spot along with a request to nature. At the final site, sacred water is used — a closing moment that holds deep meaning in the tradition.
Come with an open mind and respect for the culture. Nothing is consumed or smelled during the ritual and everything used is natural — you are stepping into a living tradition, not a performance.
